AHTS Simulator

Simulateur AHTSThe AHTS simulator installed at the BOURBON Training Centers in Marseilles and in Singapore represents both a technological advance and an opportunity for the industry as a whole to raise its operational, safety and quality standards.

It was developed with Offshore Simulator Center (OSC), the Norwegian initiator of this technology.

It realistically recreates the bridge and deck of an anchor handling vessel working for an offshore oil rig, and this, in lifelike conditions simulation.

A tool to train crews to Anchor Handling operations

This concept simulates high risk offshore operations, such as towage or offshore oil rig anchor handling, using a 3D visual model.

The simulator includes a bridge environment containing the officers’ control panels along with an operational deck environment, classrooms and a debriefing room.

The following command stations are reproduced down to the last detail:

DP Simulator

The dynamic positioning (DP) training program involves training students on the automatic system for controlling the position and the direction of a vessel. This means controlling three degrees of freedom of movement: backwards and forwards motion, sideways motion and yawing.

This DP training, which is recognized by the Nautical Institute, alternates between theoretical instruction and practical applications on a simulator. This enables students to learn about all the components of the system while familiarizing themselves with a DP console. This gives them a highly realistic experience, which they then have to validate by spending time at sea operating a DP vessel.

The DP simulator is a comprehensive, reliable training tool that prepares students for realities in the field:

UHD Work ROV operations simulator

In operation since June 2008, the simulator for the new Work ROVs, provided by US manufacturer Schilling Robotics, can be used to train the pilots and crews that will operate these very powerful ROVs. Today this is the only simulator of its kind existing in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean. It can perform the following tasks:

This simulator, which can also be programmed based on specific data provided by customers on their equipment and the work to be done, also represents a definite competitive advantage! Every month it can train three to five ROV pilots, so it will be able to train fifty people within the next two years – a challenge that only BOURBON will be able to meet.

Eventually, it will be possible to ship this simulator anywhere in the world to meet local training needs.

Surfer Simulator

Surfers are fast crew boats which transport staff to oil facilities and move them around among different platforms. Their unique design allows them to berth safely into specific boat-landings, which are integrated into oil rigs and some supply vessels. They are as well used to transport little cargo on their forward deck, using rig or harbour cranes. These vessels are propelled by waterjets, making them very handy.

The maneuver of such ships is specific and needs dedicated training.

To that intention, BOURBON is developing an onshore solution based on simulator.

Simulator training covers all the learning techniques and the monitoring of basic knowledge and know-how enabling the pilots to control the surfers in normal use. It will also help to acquire control techniques in all circumstances and particularly when facing difficult situations.

Thus, the Surfer simulator will enable:

Eight simulators will be set up to cover each Surfer operation area.

In addition, each new Surfer pilot will have to validate its practical training onboard a training vessel during one week.
