Environment
Respecting the environment, a vital commitment.
In terms of the environment, BOURBON shares international concerns and challenges and is commited on a daily basis to contribute to respecting and caring for the environment.
As evidence of the company's commitment, it has adopted the highest international standards. The fact that it designs innovative vessels, its operating procedures, the training and responsiveness of its crews as well as its onshore services also illustrate BOURBON's commitment in this area.
This determination is reflected concretely in the day by day application of fundamental principles of the BOURBON sustainable development policy (reducing greenhouse gases, combating pollution, etc.).
Objectives of BOURBON's environmental policy:
- Identify all the environmental impacts related to BOURBON's activities
- Verify and facilitate compliance with international regulations, with the applicable standards and with client demands
- Reduce ecological incidents of all kinds by promoting prevention, by responding efficiently and learning from previous events
- Pursue its program of commissioning innovative and environmentally friendly vessels
- Keep a log of fuel and lubricant consumption
- Introduce an action plan to support and obtain ISO 14001 Environment System certification in all the affiliates involved in offshore support vessel management.
BOURBON is also committed to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by Horizon 2012. This unprecedented effort surpasses the requirements of the International Maritime Organization.
This reduction will be thanks on the one hand to the improved energy efficiency of the vessels and, on the other, to a determined policy of eco design and a reduction in fuel consumption.
In view of this goal, an audit was conducted in 2008 to establish points of reference, gather data and establish indicators and measuring tools.
International standards
In terms of the environment, BOURBON undertakes to follow international standards strictly, making them a part of its daily work practices. These standards include:
- ISO (International System Organization) standard 9001 version 2001: certified by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance, this standard covers the contractual relationship between a customer and a supplier to ensure complete control over the service expected.
- The ISM (International Safety Management) code. It covers the organization and steps taken to prevent pollution risks.
- HSE practices and local regulations, involving the evaluation of professional risks.
