Economic responsibility

Development that is economically fair

In introducing its sustainable development policy, and for the sake of transparency, ethics and responsibility, BOURBON has developed a code of conduct that serves as a common thread among all measures taken.

The priority areas are:

  • Helping to eliminate North-South inequalities and to achieve the "Millennium Development Goals"
  • Taking advantage of the most relevant growth opportunities by entering into partnerships and taking targeted measures
  • Continuing to run the company in as transparent a manner as possible

In 2008, BOURBON introduced the unified interest program in Nigeria, a country with a population of more than 100 million in which the group has been active for eight years through its subsidiary Interoil Nigeria.

This program was implemented in three phases:

  • Inventory measuring BOURBON's footprint in Nigeria
  • Analysis
  • Synthesis identifying which areas need improvement

Assessment of the program of solidarity and development in Nigeria

Caroline Arsac, a BOURBON project manager, conducted a pilot project in June 2008 to assess and measure the group's contribution to that country's economic development, based on three criteria:

  • BOURBON's social performance: training, protection and social services.
  • Its economic contribution, particularly through investments, employment, and purchases of goods and services locally.
  • Its relationship with local communities: in a tense, complex political context, in which the redistribution system may be lacking, BOURBON wishes to engage in a genuine dialog with them and define their participation in its business development process.

This mission will make it possible to select the first concrete measure to take in the country in connection with the linchpin "economically fair development."
