Economic responsibility
Development that is economically fair
In introducing its sustainable development policy, and for the sake of transparency, ethics and responsibility, BOURBON has developed a code of conduct that serves as a common thread among all measures taken.
The priority areas are:
- Helping to eliminate North-South inequalities and to achieve the "Millennium Development Goals"
- Taking advantage of the most relevant growth opportunities by entering into partnerships and taking targeted measures
- Continuing to run the company in as transparent a manner as possible
In 2010, BOURBON established a set of benchmarks for economic indicators to measure the performance of the Group. Inspired by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a world-renowned structure, the reporting takes into account the impacts the organization could have upon the economic conditions of the stakeholders and upon the economic systems at local, national and global levels.
This system of reference is made up of 3 main themes:
- Business ethics
- Product liability
- Local content
This measurement system was carried out in-house under the control of the Executive Board.
Assessment of the program of solidarity and development in Nigeria
A BOURBON project manager, conducted a pilot project to assess and measure the Group's contribution to that country's economic development, based on three criteria:
- BOURBON's social performance: training, protection and social services.
- Its economic contribution, particularly through investments, employment, and purchases of goods and services locally.
- Its relationship with local communities: in a tense, complex political context, in which the redistribution system may be lacking, BOURBON wishes to engage in a genuine dialog with them and define their participation in its business development process.
