Environmental Responsibility
Development that takes the Environment into Account
Anticipating and successfully meeting the challenge the marine industry must take on to participate in major environmental issues, particularly climate change, such is the major issue at stake for a company like BOURBON, which has an environmentally friendly sustainable development policy.
Our goal: Sustained efforts to reduce by 20% greenhouse gases by 2012 on a constant basis. This is an unprecedented goal that exceeds the requirements of the International Maritime Organization.
This reduction will come partly from improvements in the energy efficiency of the vessels and partly from a voluntary policy of eco-design and restricted consumption.
With this prospect in mind, some measures have already been taken by the Group and will be pursued until 2012: completion of an audit, establishing a system of reference, data-gathering, and introducing indicators and measuring tools.
In 2010, BOURBON studied and selected tools for direct measurement of diesel consumption aboard vessels. The next objective (next step) will consist in providing the whole fleet with vessels for deepwater/continental offshore and subsea operations.
