Environmental Responsibility
Development that takes the Environment into Account
Anticipating and successfully meeting the challenge the marine industry must take on to participate in major environmental issues, particularly climate change, such is the major issue at stake for a company like BOURBON, which has an environmentally friendly sustainable development policy.
Our goal: a 20% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2012 on a constant basis. This is an unprecedented goal that exceeds the requirements of the International Maritime Organization.
This reduction will come partly from improvements in the energy efficiency of the vessels and partly from a voluntary policy of eco-design and restricted consumption.
With this prospect in mind, some measures have already been taken in 2008 and will be pursued until 2012: completion of an audit, establishing a system of reference, data-gathering, and introducing indicators and measuring tools.
Blue Charter
BOURBON is a signatory of the Blue Charter of Ship-owners of France which contains 5 commitments :
- Making constant improvements in vessel safety and quality.
- Protecting the marine environment and the coastline.
- Guaranteeing the proper living and working conditions for crews.
- Running companies in a transparent and ethical manner
- Confirming our solidarity with the marine community.
