turnover as at september 30th 2002 : + 8.1 %The increase in consolidated turnover over the first nine months of 2002 amounted to 8.1%, i.e. €672M as compared to €622M for 2001 pro forma. This growth comes principally from the encouraging results in our distribution business and the offshore marine services, which respectively posted increases of 13.4% and 32.7%. Consolidated turnover
* The pro forma 2001 figures are calculated with a 66.6% consolidation of the Distribution branch (in view of the 33.4% shareholding taken by Casino) and to allow for the transfer of the "Réunion-Europe" sugar business (in the beginning of 2001) and the reclassification of the fishing activity in "Other business".
With an overall growth rate of 13.4%, this business has registered steady development in France (Réunion) over the first nine months (8.5%). The results for the third quarter show the beneficial impact of the Le Port shopping mall, opened in May 2002. International business reflects the openings in Vietnam and in Mayotte in early 2001, together with the consolidation of the Mauritius store. The development of this business, while satisfactory in local terms, was affected by a drop in certain foreign currencies, notably in Vietnam.
The marine services to offshore oil fields, the strategic development axis for Groupe Bourbon, posted a growth rate of 32.7% at the end of September 2002, higher than the average targeted in the 2002-2006 business plan. The multi-purpose supply-vessel Athéna, put into service in the Congo in late October 2002, will help boost turnover over the coming quarter. The towage figures showed a slight drop over the summer and the bulk transport business continued to consolidate its position in terms of volume in a market characterized by low rates up until September.
