Bourbon Offshore Norway, Offshore Division
Bourbon Surf, North Sea
Tell us about your career at Bourbon Offshore Norway.
I joined Havila Supply in 2001 and sailed as First Officer, then as Chief Officer on a number of AHTS and PSVs before becoming the Captain of the Bourbon Surf, the largest AHTS in the fleet, in December 2005, at the age of 35. After several missions in the spot market in Algeria, Angola and Gabon, we are currently operating in the North Sea under a long-term contract for Norsk Hydro, pending the arrival of the Bourbon Orca at the end of June.
Are you happy being a Captain?
It is a great pleasure for me to command such a vessel and to work with excellent professionals. As Captain I must see to it that my crew and I do our best to satisfy the client, while ensuring the safety of the men and equipment, which is an absolute priority. I greatly appreciate the variety and wealth of my contacts, and the possibility of discovering new countries. I am very lucky to work in a group that did not hesitate to give me this responsibility at a very young age.
And the future?
When the Bourbon Orca takes over, we will leave for the spot market. Then, I will be on leave for a year with Norske Weretas as senior marina surveyor. This will be an extremely valuable experience that will give me a chance to see things from another perspective.
