A base worker’s testimony

Agostinho Neto, Sales Manager

Sonasurf, Offshore Division
Base Luanda, Angola

Tell us about your career with Sonasurf?

Sonasurf Angola is my first employer. I joined the company for a temporary mission in the HR department in 2003 and, after a time, I was offered a position as administrative assistant for invoicing. A few months later, BOURBON hired me permanently as Human Resources Coordinator. Today, I am 27 and Sonasurf is giving me training to become a Sales Manager.

What are your main duties?

Right now, I am in training but my assignments when I become a Sales Manager will be to conduct an active watch of market trends, analyze customer needs and requests for tenders in order to prepare and track the bids we submit until contracts are signed.

Can you describe a typical day?

In addition to the traditional administrative work, my days include meetings with customers and with the Sonasurf management and my duties to monitor the competition and analyze sector studies and reports prepared by specialized firms. I also have regular telephone conferences with the marketing department of Bourbon Offshore in Marseilles. Periodically, I visit the vessels in port or even at sea, which gives me an opportunity to talk with the officers and crews, because nothing can replace human contact. As you can see, I don’t really have a typical day.
